Sending us a photo
Plenty of the cameras and lenses on UsedLens have no picture, because nobody has photographed
them under a licence we're allowed to use. If you own one, your photo fixes that, and you get
the credit for it.
What you're giving us permission to do
When you tick the box on the submission form, you're confirming the photograph is yours and
giving us permission to publish it on UsedLens. In plain terms:
- The permission is non-exclusive. You keep the copyright, and you can use,
sell or license the photo anywhere else, to anyone, with no reference to us.
- We may resize or crop it to fit the space on the page. We won't alter the
content of the photograph beyond that.
- We publish it with your credit, using the name you gave us, plus a link
to your website if you gave us one.
- Each product page features one photo, and we may rotate it for a new image in future.
- It will also show up outside UsedLens. Google puts product images into
its search results and into Google Images, and the photo appears in the preview card when
someone shares the page in a message or on social media. We're not republishing it
anywhere; that's simply what happens to a picture on a product page. It is also why the
permission has to cover more than this site alone.
- The permission is ongoing, so we don't have to ask again each time a page is rebuilt.
What we won't do
- We won't sell your photograph or license it on to anyone else, and we won't put it in a
paid advert without asking you first.
- We won't publish your email address, or use it for anything except confirming your
submission and telling you when the photo is live.
- We won't keep location data. Photos are re-saved on upload, which strips the GPS
coordinates phones record, so photographing your gear at home doesn't publish where
you live.
Changing your mind
Email us and we'll take the photo down. We're not going to argue about it, and you don't need
to give a reason.
The unglamorous bits
- Only send photos you took yourself. Please don't send something you
found online, however good it is. We'd be publishing another photographer's work under
your name, and that is the one thing here that could really hurt someone.
- We may decline any submission, or remove one later, without giving a reason. Most
declines are dull: wrong model, too dark, or the product is hard to make out.
- Credit links carry
rel="nofollow ugc". It's how search engines expect a link
given in exchange for content to be marked.
- If you don't confirm your email within seven days, we delete the submission and the
file. If we turn a photo down, we delete the file and strip your details from our
records after ninety days.
