7Artisans' updated budget manual-focus 35mm prime, available in many mirrorless mounts.
The 7Artisans 35mm f/1.4 II is the updated version of 7Artisans' popular budget manual-focus prime, released around 2022. Available for all major mirrorless mounts, it provides a standard 35mm perspective or wider/tighter equivalent depending on sensor format, at a price that makes fast-aperture prime photography accessible to anyone.
Optical quality is improved over the original with better wide-open sharpness and reduced vignetting. The rendering character retains the appealing vintage-style look with smooth but not clinical bokeh. Build is all-metal with a well-damped focus ring and clicky aperture stops. There is no autofocus or electronic coupling.
Available in Nikon Z, Sony E, Fujifilm X, Canon RF, Micro Four Thirds, and Leica L mounts. Filter thread is 46mm. The Mark II improves on the original in sharpness and flare control while maintaining the same price positioning.
Very cheap used. Check the aperture ring clicks and focus ring smoothness. No electronics means nothing can fail electrically. The Mark II is worth seeking out over the original for the improved optics. An excellent lens for learning manual focus and exploring creative aperture work.
