Asahi Pentax's vintage M42 kit — SL body with Super Takumar 55mm f/1.8 in the screw-mount era.

A kit bundle pairing the Asahi Pentax SL 35mm film SLR with the Super-Takumar 55mm f/1.8 standard prime. The Asahi Pentax SL (released approximately 1968) is a simplified Spotmatic without the SPD metering — using the older selenium cell meter. Both camera and lens use M42 screw mount. M42 (bundle).

Asahi Pentax SL: 35mm film SLR, selenium cell meter (selenium — no battery required), all-mechanical shutter. Super-Takumar 55mm f/1.8: fast standard prime, M42 screw mount, manual focus, approximately 185g. M42 mount.

The Asahi Pentax SL simplified the Spotmatic by eliminating the TTL metering (using an older selenium cell instead). The Super-Takumar 55mm f/1.8 is an excellent manual-focus standard prime for M42-mount cameras. M42 lenses adapt easily to modern mirrorless cameras via M42 thread adapters.

On the used market this is a classic Asahi Pentax M42 kit. Condition checks: SL meter operation (selenium cell — may be dead on old examples), shutter at all speeds, Super-Takumar front element condition. M42 mount — requires M42-to-mirrorless adapter for lens use on modern cameras.
