Atomos's professional 7-inch HDR monitor-recorder — 4K HDMI/SDI with ProRes recording.
The Atomos Shogun Inferno 4K is a professional external video monitor and recorder released approximately 2016, designed to record RAW and high-quality video output from compatible cinema and mirrorless cameras. Not a camera or lens — a video recording and monitoring device. No optical mount.
7-inch 1500 nit HDR monitor display. Records 4K RAW and ProRes/DNxHD via HDMI or SDI from compatible cameras. Up to 180fps recording at 4K. Built-in SSD recording bays. SDR and HDR waveform and vectorscope monitoring tools. Timecode in/out. No optical mount.
The Shogun Inferno extended the recording capabilities of cameras that could output 4K RAW externally but lacked internal 4K RAW recording, including Sony and Canon cinema cameras of the era. The HDR monitor provided on-set colour monitoring for HDR workflows. An SSD-based external recorder rather than a flash media device.
On the used market the Atomos Shogun Inferno 4K is available as a professional external monitor-recorder. Condition checks: 7-inch display for dead pixels or marks, HDMI and SDI input ports, SSD bay condition and SSD availability, fan noise, battery plates. Verify firmware update support status with Atomos. No optical mount.
