Blackmagic's cinema camera with built-in ND filters, brighter screen, and Super 35 6K sensor for Canon EF.
The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro (BMPCC 6K Pro) was released in 2021, adding built-in ND filters and a larger battery to the base 6K design. Super 35 sensor (23.1×13.0mm) at approximately 6144×3456 (6K). 6K/50fps maximum. Blackmagic RAW and ProRes codecs. 13 stops dynamic range (Blackmagic claim). No IBIS. Built-in clear/2/4/6-stop NDs are the Pro's primary hardware differentiator. Canon EF mount.
Super 35 CMOS sensor, 23.1×13.0mm (~21.2MP, 6144×3456). 6K at up to 50fps; 6K CinemaScope (6144×2560) at up to 60fps. Blackmagic RAW (3:1 to Q5) and ProRes 422 / LT / HQ / Proxy. 13 stops claimed dynamic range. Built-in ND filters (clear/2/4/6 stop — Pro exclusive). No IBIS. NP-F570 (L-series) battery. Approximately 1,238g body. Canon EF mount.
The built-in ND filters are the 6K Pro's defining upgrade over the base 6K: the 4-stop built-in ND eliminates the need for external matte box ND solutions for aperture-controlled exposure in bright conditions — particularly relevant for cinema shooting where constant aperture at 180° shutter angle is conventional. The NP-F570 battery is the Sony L-series standard, widely available.
On the used market the BMPCC 6K Pro is available at mid-range cinema camera pricing. Condition checks: BRAW recording function (test all ND positions), NP-F570 battery health, EF mount contacts for wear, rear LCD. No IBIS. Compatible with Canon EF lenses natively; EF-S lenses will produce crop/vignetting.
