Blackmagic's 7-inch HDR monitor-recorder with 12G-SDI and HDMI, supporting up to 2160p60 ProRes recording.
The Blackmagic Design Video Assist 7" 12G HDR is a standalone on-camera monitor and field recorder, not a camera. Released approximately 2019, it provides a 7-inch 1920×1200 calibrated 2500-nit display with P3 wide colour gamut, HDR10, and HLG, combined with ProRes and DNxHR recording at up to 4K resolution. A 12G-SDI input enables 4K/60fps capture from professional broadcast cameras. Approximately 835g without batteries.
7-inch 1920×1200 display at 2500 nits; P3 wide colour gamut; HDR10 and HLG. Records 10-bit 4:2:2 ProRes or DNxHR/DNxHD; also Blackmagic RAW (via 12G-SDI from supported cameras). Input: 1x 12G-SDI (up to 12G single-link 4K/60fps); 1x HDMI 2.0a. Audio: 2x balanced mini XLR with 48V phantom power; 3.5mm headphone out. Storage: dual UHS-II SD + USB-C 3.1. Approximately 835g without batteries (uses LP-E6-type batteries).
The 12G-SDI input is the key differentiator from earlier Video Assist models: a single 12G cable carries 4K/60fps from cameras that output at this rate, enabling field recording of broadcast-grade footage with on-set monitoring. The 2500-nit display provides outdoor daylight monitoring without a hood. The 4-channel audio with 48V phantom power enables direct microphone connection without an external preamp, covering single-operator ENG and documentary workflows.
On the used market the Blackmagic Video Assist 7" 12G HDR is available at professional on-camera monitoring pricing. Condition checks: display for dead pixels and brightness uniformity, 12G-SDI connector condition, mini XLR input pins, and SD slot operation. This is a monitor/recorder — it records signal from connected cameras. No imaging sensor or lens mount.
