The Bronica SQ-A (1980) is the original body in the Bronica SQ 6×6 medium format system — the professional-tier body that launched the SQ line. The SQ-A predates the SQ-Ai (which added AE motor coupling) and provides all the core SQ system capabilities: modular film backs, interchangeable finders, and the leaf-shutter lens system.

6×6 medium format film SLR, Bronica SQ mount (PS lens series), modular 120/220 film backs, compatible with Zenzanon-PS lens series (integrated leaf shutter in each lens, full flash sync at all speeds), waist-level and prism finder options.

The SQ-A is the original SQ system body — all PS-series Zenzanon lenses, film backs, and finders are compatible between SQ-A, SQ-Ai, and SQ-B bodies. Without the Ai motor coupling, the SQ-A requires manual film advance. The 6×6 format provides a square negative with four times the area of 35mm. The leaf-shutter lens system enables full flash sync at all speeds — a key advantage for studio and location work.
