Canon's L-series macro with revolutionary Hybrid IS — the first stabilisation system designed specifically for macro work.
The Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM (2009) introduced Hybrid IS — the world's first image stabilisation system that compensates for both angular and shift movements. At macro distances, shift (parallel movement) is the dominant cause of blur, and conventional IS only corrects angular shake.
Outstanding sharpness at all reproduction ratios. Ring USM AF is fast and quiet. L-series build with weather sealing. UD lens element. Doubles as an excellent portrait lens. IS provides approximately 4 stops at normal distances and 2 stops at 1:1 macro.
Canon EF mount, 67mm filter thread. 625g weight. L-series weather sealing with fluorine coating. 30cm minimum focus distance at 1:1. Widely regarded as Canon's best macro lens — some consider it the best macro lens ever made for DSLR.
Common on the used market. Test IS mechanism — it should engage smoothly without grinding. Check 1:1 focus accuracy. The RF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM is the mirrorless successor. This EF version remains outstanding with an adapter.
