Canon's updated L-series 14mm rectilinear prime — improved optics over the Mark I with fluorite element.
The Canon EF 14mm f/2.8L II USM launched in 2007 as a significant optical update to the original 14mm f/2.8L from 1991. It improved corner sharpness dramatically with updated glass including two aspherical elements and an Ultra-low Dispersion element.
Optically excellent — a major improvement over the Mark I with notably sharper corners on full-frame. Well-controlled distortion for 14mm rectilinear. Ring-type USM provides fast, silent AF with full-time manual override. L-series weather-sealed construction.
Canon EF mount. Bulbous front element — no standard filter thread. Built-in fixed petal hood. Weighs approximately 645g. Full-frame coverage with 114-degree field of view. Rear gel filter holder. Minimum focus distance 20cm.
Available used at mid-range to professional prices. The Sigma 14mm f/1.8 Art offers wider aperture and comparable sharpness. Modern mirrorless wide-angle zooms cover 14mm with more versatility. Still an excellent prime for architecture and interiors on Canon EF bodies.
