Canon's early full-frame IS zoom covering 28-135mm, one of the first Canon lenses with stabilisation.
The Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM launched in 1996 as one of Canon's first image-stabilised zoom lenses. Covering a versatile 28-135mm range with IS and USM autofocus, it was a popular walk-around lens for full-frame Canon film and early digital bodies.
Optical quality is adequate for the era with acceptable centre sharpness and soft corners. IS provides approximately 2 stops of stabilisation, primitive by modern standards. USM motor is fast and quiet. Build is standard plastic and metal.
Canon EF mount, 72mm filter thread. This lens predates the 24-105mm f/4L IS USM which replaced it as the default full-frame walk-around zoom. The 28mm starting point is narrower than modern 24mm alternatives.
Very cheap used. The 24-105mm f/4L IS USM is better in every way and the recommended alternative. The 28-135mm IS is only justified at near-zero prices. Historical interest as one of Canon's first IS lenses.
