Canon's professional 300mm f/2.8 Mark II — improved IS and optics with fluorite elements.

The Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L IS II USM was released approximately 2011 as the second-generation professional super-telephoto prime, following the EF 300mm f/2.8L IS USM. The IS II generation introduced a new optical design with fluorite and UD elements and significantly reduced weight. Canon EF mount.

f/2.8 constant aperture. 300mm focal length. 17 elements in 13 groups, including fluorite and UD elements. Drop-in rear filter slot (52mm). At approximately 2,350g. IS II (approximately four-stop correction). Three IS modes. Canon EF mount. Compatible with EF 1.4× III and 2× III extenders.

The IS II generation reduced weight by approximately 700g versus the IS I through fluorite element use and a revised magnesium-polycarbonate barrel design. IS Mode 3 activates only at shutter release for panning shots. The drop-in filter system accepts 52mm rear filters including circular polarising and ND without oversized front filters.
