Canon's early EF standard zoom — basic 35-105mm range from the original EF lens lineup.
The Canon EF 35-105mm f/3.5-4.5 launched in 1988 as one of Canon's early EF-mount standard zoom lenses. It provided a practical 35-105mm range for the first generation of Canon EOS film cameras in a compact and lightweight design.
Optical quality is basic by modern standards — acceptable centre sharpness but soft at the edges. The variable f/3.5-4.5 aperture is moderately slow. Autofocus uses an early motor design that is functional but audible. Macro mode provides useful close-up capability.
Canon EF mount with 58mm filter thread. Approximately 340g — lightweight. Full-frame coverage. No image stabilisation. Plastic barrel construction with metal mount. Minimum focus distance approximately 50cm. Macro mode available at longer focal lengths.
Very cheap used — essentially free. Predates USM motors and modern coatings. Any modern kit zoom is dramatically better. Only interesting as a piece of early EF-mount history or as an absolute emergency backup lens. Check for smooth zoom action and clear optics.
