The Canon EF 500mm f/4L IS USM is a professional super-telephoto prime from Canon's L series for wildlife, sports, and aviation photography. Multiple generations produced (IS and IS II). Canon EF mount.

f/4 maximum aperture. 500mm focal length (full-frame). L-series IS. Ring-type USM AF. At approximately 3,870g (IS 1st gen) or approximately 3,190g (IS II). 52mm drop-in filter. Full-frame. Canon EF mount.

Multiple versions: the original IS and the lighter IS II (released approximately 2011). The IS II is approximately 680g lighter than the original IS with improved stabilisation. Both support Canon EF teleconverters (1.4× and 2×). A primary professional wildlife and sports super-telephoto in Canon's lineup.
