Tiny retractable kit zoom for Canon's discontinued EOS M mirrorless system.
The Canon EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM is the standard kit lens for Canon's EOS M-series mirrorless cameras, covering a 24-72mm equivalent range. Launched in 2015, it replaced the earlier EF-M 18-55mm as the default bundle lens. Its retractable design makes it extremely compact when not in use.
Optical quality is decent for a kit lens with good centre sharpness and IS providing around 3.5 stops of stabilisation. The STM motor delivers quiet, smooth autofocus suitable for video. Corners are soft wide open but improve by f/8. The slow f/6.3 maximum aperture at 45mm limits low-light performance.
Canon EF-M mount only, with a 49mm filter thread. The EOS M system was discontinued in 2022 when Canon shifted to RF-mount, making this lens an orphan with no upgrade path within Canon's ecosystem.
Very cheap used because the M system is discontinued. Check the retractable mechanism locks and unlocks cleanly. The lens is a reasonable performer but the dead-end EOS M system limits its long-term value. Only worth buying if you already own an M-series body.
