Canon's telephoto zoom for the EOS M system with IS and quiet STM motor.
The Canon EF-M 55-200mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM is the telephoto zoom for Canon's EOS M mirrorless system, launched in 2014. Covering an 88-320mm equivalent range with IS and an STM motor, it provided useful telephoto reach for the compact M-series cameras.
Optical quality is adequate with decent sharpness at shorter focal lengths but softening at 200mm. IS provides approximately 3.5 stops. The STM motor is smooth and quiet for video. Build is lightweight plastic at just 260g, matching the compact M system philosophy.
Canon EF-M mount only, 52mm filter thread. The EOS M system was discontinued in 2022, making this an orphan lens. It cannot be adapted to the RF mount system. The M system's limited future is the primary concern.
Very cheap used because the M system is discontinued. Check IS and STM operation. Only worth buying if you already own an M-series body and need telephoto reach. The dead-end mount system makes this lens difficult to recommend for new investment.
