Canon's flagship DSLR — 14fps burst, 61-point AF, 4K DCI 60p, built for professional sports and press.
The Canon EOS-1D X Mark II was released in May 2016 as Canon's professional flagship DSLR, becoming the first Canon DSLR to record 4K video internally when recording DCI 4K/60fps to CFast 2.0 card. The 20.2MP full-frame CMOS sensor pairs with dual DIGIC 6+ processors for the 14fps continuous burst rate with full AF/AE. The 61-point AF system with 21 cross-type and 5 dual-cross-type points provides professional sports and wildlife tracking capability. A second card slot uses CompactFlash (Type I) for backup and overflow.
The 20.2MP full-frame CMOS sensor pairs with dual DIGIC 6+ processors. The 61-point AF system — including a 100,000-pixel RGB+IR metering sensor for subject recognition — provides 21 cross-type and 5 dual-cross-type points. Burst shooting runs at 14fps with the OVF and 16fps in Live View with mirror lock-up. DCI 4K records at up to 60fps internally to CFast 2.0 (4K/60fps requires CFast 2.0; the CF slot cannot sustain the required write speed). Battery life approximately 1,210 shots using the LP-E19, body weight approximately 1,340g with battery, dual card slots (CFast 2.0 and CompactFlash Type I).
The 4K/60fps internal recording was the 1DX Mark II's landmark specification at launch: no DSLR had previously achieved 4K recording internally at 60fps. The 14fps burst at 20.2MP exceeded the 1DX Mark I's 14fps at 18.1MP. The RGB+IR metering sensor for subject recognition improved AF tracking accuracy in challenging lighting. LP-E4/LP-E4N batteries are not compatible — the LP-E19 is specific to the 1DX II and requires the 1DX II charger.
On the used market the 1DX Mark II is affordable for a full-frame professional DSLR with internal 4K capability. Condition checks: shutter count via EXIF — rated 400,000 actuations — CFast 2.0 slot contacts, CF slot contacts, LP-E19 battery health, and weather sealing at port covers. The LP-E19 is specific to the 1DX II/III — confirm battery availability. Compatible with all Canon EF and EF-S lenses.
