Canon's smallest DSLR with 4K video, a vari-angle screen, and modern connectivity.
The Canon EOS 250D, known as the Rebel SL3 in North America, was launched in 2019 as the world's lightest DSLR with a movable screen. With a 24.1MP APS-C sensor, Dual Pixel AF, and 4K video, it packed modern features into a tiny body aimed at upgraders from smartphones and compact cameras.
Key features include a vari-angle touchscreen, Dual Pixel AF for live view and video, 4K video recording, eye-detect AF, and Wi-Fi with Bluetooth. The optical viewfinder uses a 9-point AF system which is more limited. Burst rate is 5fps. The body is extremely compact and lightweight with a comfortable grip despite its small size.
The 250D is praised for squeezing modern features into the smallest possible DSLR form factor. It handles well for its size and produces excellent images. It is criticised for the 9-point optical viewfinder AF which limits action shooting, and the 4K video has a significant crop. The 200D II and 250D are essentially the same camera in different markets.
Good value used. Check the vari-angle screen hinge, verify 4K video operation, and test Dual Pixel AF in live view. The 250D is arguably the best beginner Canon DSLR, offering a much better feature set than the 2000D or 4000D for a moderate price premium.
