Canon's first HD-video Rebel with 18MP sensor — brought Full HD video and improved resolution to the entry level.
The Canon EOS 550D (Rebel T2i in North America) was released in 2010 as the mid-range APS-C DSLR, featuring an 18MP CMOS sensor and 1080/30fps Full HD video — Canon's first Rebel with 1080p. 3.7fps continuous shooting. LP-E8 battery. At approximately 530g body only.
18MP APS-C CMOS sensor (22.3×14.9mm). 1080p at 24/25/30fps; 720p at 50/60fps. 3.7fps continuous shooting. LP-E8 battery. Approximately 530g body only. Canon EF and EF-S lens compatibility. Full HD video — first Rebel series body with 1080p.
The 550D's 1080p video was a significant milestone for the Rebel line: the 500D (2009) captured 1080p at 20fps; the 550D captured it at the standard 24/30fps. Combined with the 18MP sensor (matched then only by higher-end EOS bodies), the 550D represented a resolution and video upgrade that made it the predominant DSLR video body for indie filmmakers in 2010.
On the used market the Canon EOS 550D is very affordable as a vintage APS-C DSLR. Condition checks: LP-E8 battery health, shutter count (rated 100K actuations), sensor for dust. Compatible with all Canon EF and EF-S lenses.
