Canon's first touchscreen DSLR — 18MP APS-C with Hybrid CMOS AF and 1080p video.
The Canon EOS 650D (Rebel T4i in North America) was released in 2012 as a mid-range APS-C DSLR, featuring an 18MP CMOS sensor and introducing a touchscreen to the Rebel/x0D line. 1080/30fps video with continuous AF via the touchscreen (the first EOS DSLR with touch-panel video AF). 5fps burst. LP-E8 battery. At approximately 575g with battery.
18MP APS-C CMOS sensor (22.3×14.9mm). 1080p at 24/25/30fps; 720p at 50/60fps. 5fps burst. Touch-panel LCD (first Rebel with touchscreen). LP-E8 battery. Approximately 530g body only; approximately 575g with battery. Canon EF/EF-S mount.
The 650D's touchscreen video AF was a significant step forward for entry-level DSLR video: the Hybrid CMOS AF sensor allowed touch-to-focus tracking during 1080p recording, reducing the hunting typical of contrast-detect-only DSLR video AF. The LP-E8 battery is shared with the 600D, 620D, and 700D — good used market availability.
On the used market the Canon EOS 650D is very affordable as a vintage APS-C DSLR. Condition checks: LP-E8 battery health (confirm it charges), shutter count (rated 100K actuations), touchscreen for scratches. Compatible with all Canon EF and EF-S lenses.
