Canon's first touchscreen DSLR — 18MP APS-C with Hybrid CMOS AF and 1080p video.
The Canon EOS 650D (Rebel T4i) launched in 2012 as the first Canon DSLR with a touchscreen and the first to feature Hybrid CMOS AF — phase-detect pixels on the imaging sensor for improved Live View and video autofocus. These innovations filtered up to Canon's entire lineup.
The 18MP APS-C CMOS sensor delivers good image quality with clean results to ISO 1600. 9-point all cross-type AF system in viewfinder mode. 5fps burst. Hybrid CMOS AF for smoother Live View focusing — a genuine improvement over contrast-detect-only predecessors. Full HD 1080p 30fps video.
Compact body at 575g. 3-inch vari-angle capacitive touchscreen — first for Canon DSLR. SD card slot. Built-in flash. STM lens compatibility for quiet video AF. WiFi not built in. Optical viewfinder with 95% coverage.
Very cheap used. The touchscreen and Hybrid CMOS AF were groundbreaking features that defined Canon's direction. The 700D improved slightly and the 750D added WiFi and better AF. A solid starter DSLR that pioneered Canon's touch-focused interface.
