Canon's first Rebel with a touchscreen — 18MP APS-C with Hybrid CMOS AF for live view and video.
The Canon EOS 700D (marketed as the Rebel T5i in North America) was released in May 2013 as the successor to the 650D, introducing a rotating touchscreen with native AF via touch-to-focus — the first Canon Rebel to enable subject selection and AF trigger directly by touching the LCD in shooting mode. The 18MP APS-C sensor, 9-point AF module, and 5fps burst maintain the entry-mid DSLR specification tier. The Hybrid CMOS AF III provides improved contrast-detect Live View performance over the 650D.
The 18MP APS-C CMOS sensor pairs with the DIGIC 5 processor. The 9-point AF system provides standard acquisition for general photography. Burst shooting runs at 5fps. 1080p video records at up to 30fps in Live View with Hybrid CMOS AF III for continuous tracking. The rotating touchscreen enables low-angle and overhead composition with touch-to-AF subject selection. No weather sealing. Battery life approximately 440 shots using the LP-E8, body weight approximately 580g with battery and card, single SD/SDHC/SDXC slot.
The touchscreen AF is the 700D's practical improvement over the 650D for photographers who use Live View for composition — touch selection of AF point and subject removes the need for physical AF button or dial navigation during Live View shooting. For vlogging and video, this enables self-facing subject selection by touching the rotated screen. The 5fps burst and 9-pt viewfinder AF remain the limiting factors for action photography.
On the used market the 700D is very affordable as an established Canon Rebel with touchscreen. Condition checks: rotating screen hinge, shutter count via EXIF, and LP-E8 battery health — shared with the 600D, 650D, and 750D for easy spare sourcing. The EOS 750D and 800D provide updated sensors and wider AF coverage at moderate premiums. Compatible with all Canon EF and EF-S lenses.
