Canon's affordable full-frame mirrorless — 24.2MP with Dual Pixel AF, 4K video, and compact body.
The Canon EOS R8 was released in 2023 as the entry-level full-frame Canon RF mirrorless, featuring a 24.2MP CMOS sensor and 4K/60fps video oversampled from 6K. No IBIS — the R8 relies on lens IS for stabilisation. LP-E17 battery. At approximately 461g with battery. The R8 is the most affordable RF full-frame body at launch.
24.2MP full-frame CMOS sensor. 4K/60fps (oversampled from 6K) and 4K/30fps; 1080p up to 120fps; 10-bit Canon Log 3. No IBIS. LP-E17 battery (7.2V, 1040mAh — shared with EOS M5/M6/800D/850D). Approximately 461g with battery and card. Canon RF full-frame mount.
The R8's 4K/60fps oversampled from a 6K readout provides a higher-quality 4K than typical 4K crop modes: the full-width sensor readout captures more resolution than 4K requires, then downsamples to 4K for improved detail and reduced moiré. The absence of IBIS is the primary practical trade at the entry-level RF price point versus the R6 series.
On the used market the Canon EOS R8 is available at entry-level RF full-frame pricing. Condition checks: LP-E17 battery health, 4K recording function, RF mount contacts. No IBIS. Compatible with all Canon RF-mount lenses.
