Canon FTb bridging FL and FD mounts, open-aperture metering with FD lenses and Quick Loading at budget pricing.
The Canon FTb QL is an improved SLR from 1971 that bridges Canon's FL and FD mount eras, accepting both FL and FD lenses with open-aperture metering when FD lenses are mounted. The Quick Loading mechanism carries over from the FT, and the improved metering provides more accurate exposure guidance.
The camera introduced open-aperture TTL metering with Canon FD lenses, a significant improvement over the stop-down metering of the FT. This meant photographers could meter with a bright viewfinder rather than stopping the lens down to the working aperture — a major usability advancement.
Build quality is solid Canon all-metal construction with improved ergonomics over the FT. The shutter provides speeds from 1 second to 1/1000s, and the camera accepts both FL-mount and new FD-mount lenses, providing versatility across Canon's lens generations.
The Canon FTb QL offers excellent value on the used market as the bridge between Canon's FL and FD systems. The open-aperture metering with FD lenses provides a more refined shooting experience than the earlier FT, and the dual-mount compatibility adds flexibility.
