Canon IXUS 177 — budget compact with 8x zoom, sibling to the IXUS 160, 2016

The Canon IXUS 177 is a budget digital compact from 2016, part of the same low-cost generation of the IXUS line as the IXUS 160, sold in North America as the PowerShot ELPH 180. It replaced older entry-level IXUS models with a mildly updated body and lens.

It is built around a 1/2.3-inch sensor rated at roughly 20 megapixels, an 8x optical zoom lens covering approximately 28-224mm equivalent with a variable f/3.2-6.9 maximum aperture, a fixed rear LCD for framing and review, and 720p HD video recording.

It follows the same simple, no-frills formula as its IXUS 160 sibling rather than adding Wi-Fi or a faster lens, keeping the emphasis on low purchase price and AA-battery power over connectivity or low-light performance.
