Canon's tiny vlogging camera with a fixed 18mm lens and flip-up screen.
The Canon PowerShot V1 was announced in March 2025 and released in April 2025 as a compact fixed-zoom camera designed for content creation and vlogging, departing from the 1-inch sensor format of previous PowerShot compacts with a larger 22.3MP 1.4-type BSI CMOS sensor. A built-in cooling fan enables continuous 4K recording without thermal throttling — addressing the time-limited recording sessions typical of fan-less compact cameras. Dual Pixel CMOS AF provides subject and face tracking in photo and video modes. The DIGIC X processor handles both imaging and video processing workloads.
The 22.3MP 1.4-type BSI CMOS sensor pairs with the DIGIC X processor. The built-in 16-50mm f/2.8-4.5 lens covers wide-to-standard territory with a fast f/2.8 at the wide end — enabling background separation in video that slower fixed-zoom compacts cannot achieve. 4K records at up to 60fps with a 1.4x crop for improved stabilisation; 4K at 24-30fps uses the full sensor width without crop. 1080p records at up to 120fps for slow motion. The built-in cooling fan enables extended continuous recording without overheating interruptions. Body weight approximately 426g with battery and card, single SD/SDHC/SDXC slot.
The V1's practical design is built around the cooling fan — enabling genuine unlimited 4K recording that fan-less compact cameras cannot sustain. For solo content creators who need extended takes without overheating interruptions, the continuous recording capability is the defining feature. The larger sensor provides more shallow depth-of-field control than 1-inch sensor compacts at equivalent apertures, enabling more selective focus in video. The 16-50mm equivalent zoom covers the wide-to-normal range most useful for vlogging, documentary, and event coverage.
The V1 is a 2025 release; new is the primary market and used availability is negligible at this point. As a fixed-lens camera it has no interchangeable lenses. Condition checks when eventually available used: cooling fan operation and audibility, lens front element for cleaning marks, and battery health. The Canon EOS R50 or R10 with a compact RF-S lens provides a similar sensor size with interchangeable lens flexibility at comparable prices — the V1's advantage is the integrated form factor and cooling fan for extended recording. Fixed lens; no interchangeable mount.
