Canon's revolutionary constant f/2.8 superzoom spanning 24-105mm, the first of its kind.
The Canon RF 24-105mm f/2.8L IS USM Z launched in 2024 as the world's first constant f/2.8 standard-to-telephoto superzoom for full-frame mirrorless. Combining the range of a 24-105mm with the speed of a 24-70mm f/2.8, it eliminated the need to carry both lenses. The Z designation indicates its enhanced optical formula.
Optical quality is remarkably good for such an ambitious design. Sharpness is excellent across the frame at most focal lengths, though corners soften slightly at the extremes. IS provides approximately 5.5 stops. The constant f/2.8 maintains consistent exposure and depth of field across the entire 4.4x range.
Canon RF mount only, 82mm filter thread. Nothing comparable exists from any other manufacturer. The trade-off is weight at 1330g — heavier than the RF 24-70mm f/2.8L and RF 70-200mm f/2.8L combined. For photographers who value one-lens versatility at f/2.8, nothing else comes close.
Very new and expensive used. Check IS operation, AF accuracy across the full range, and weather seals. The weight is the practical limitation — this is a lens for those who value the constant f/2.8 over carrying two separate zooms.
