Canon's full-frame RF superzoom covering an enormous 24-240mm range with IS.
The Canon RF 24-240mm f/4-6.3 IS USM launched in 2019 as Canon's do-everything travel zoom for the RF system. Covering an enormous 10x range from wide angle to telephoto on full-frame, it eliminates lens changes entirely for travel photography at the cost of optical perfection.
Optical quality follows the typical superzoom pattern with good centre sharpness at moderate focal lengths and softening at the extremes. IS provides approximately 5 stops of stabilisation. Nano USM autofocus is fast and quiet for both stills and video. Build is solid but not weather sealed.
Canon RF mount only, 72mm filter thread. The RF 24-105mm f/4-7.1 IS STM covers less range with similar aperture. The RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM offers better quality in a shorter range. For maximum range with optical compromise the 24-240mm is unique in the RF lineup.
Good value used. Check IS operation across the full zoom range, AF accuracy at 240mm, and zoom ring for creep. The convenience of 24-240mm in one lens is the entire selling point. For critical work separate zooms are better; for travel this is unmatched.
