The 52mm filter thread is shared with the RF 35mm f/1.8 IS STM Macro.

The optical design uses 11 elements in 9 groups. Nine aperture blades produce smooth out-of-focus rendering. The 52mm filter thread is shared with the RF 35mm f/1.8 IS STM Macro — a single filter set covers both compact RF primes. At 270g the lens matches the RF 35mm in weight. Minimum focus distance of 0.14m achieves 0.5x (1:2) reproduction — half life-size on the sensor.
