Canon's all-in-one RF-S superzoom covering wide to telephoto in a single compact lens.
The Canon RF-S 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM was launched in 2022 alongside the EOS R7, offering an ambitious 18-150mm range in a relatively compact package. Covering 29-240mm equivalent on APS-C RF bodies, it eliminates the need for a second lens for most travel and general photography situations.
Optical quality is good for a superzoom with sharp centre performance at moderate focal lengths. As with all superzooms there are compromises at the extremes: softness at 150mm wide open and distortion at 18mm, though Canon's in-camera corrections handle the latter well. IS provides approximately 4.5 stops. STM motor is quiet for video.
Canon RF-S mount only, 55mm filter thread. This competes with the RF-S 18-45mm f/4.5-6.3 plus a telephoto lens versus a single versatile optic. The trade-off is convenience versus ultimate image quality. There are no third-party RF-S superzooms due to Canon's mount licensing.
Good value used. Check IS operation across the full zoom range and verify sharpness at 150mm which is where superzooms typically struggle. The convenience of an 8.3x zoom range in one lens is the main selling point. Excellent for travel where changing lenses is impractical.
