Canon's original tilt-shift 45mm — perspective and DOF control at standard focal length.
The Canon TS-E 45mm f/2.8 launched in 1991 as Canon's standard-focal-length tilt-shift lens, providing perspective correction and Scheimpflug focus control at 45mm. It targets product, food, and table-top photographers wanting view camera movements.
Optically good — sharp across the frame with tilt providing plane-of-focus control and shift correcting perspective. The 45mm focal length suits product and food photography where perspective distortion needs correction. Manual focus only — standard for TS-E.
Canon EF mount with 72mm filter thread. Approximately 645g. Manual focus. Shift ±11mm and tilt ±8.5°. The tilt and shift axes are not independently rotatable on this version — a limitation fixed in the TS-E 45mm f/2.8 Mark II (never released, but the TS-E 50mm f/2.8L Macro addressed it).
Available used at mid-range prices. The non-rotating tilt/shift axes limit creative flexibility. The Canon TS-E 50mm f/2.8L Macro is the modern replacement with independent rotation. For product and food photographers who need tilt-shift at standard focal length on Canon EF.
