Chinon's programmed K-mount SLR — the CP-5, electronic, 1984.
The Chinon CP-5 was a 35mm film SLR made from 1984 in Chinon's programmed CP line of K-mount bodies. It reflected the early-1980s move toward more automated SLRs, offering programmed exposure while keeping the Pentax K bayonet and its broad lens compatibility.
It is a single-lens-reflex camera for 35mm film on the Pentax K mount. The CP-5 offered programmed and aperture-priority automatic exposure with manual control and TTL metering, using an electronically controlled focal-plane shutter. As an electronic body it depends on battery power to operate. Some CP bodies of this era accepted an add-on motor or winder.
It suits general and travel users who want program automation with the convenience of K-mount lenses. The automation makes it easy to shoot quickly, while manual mode remains available for those who want direct control.
On the used market the CP-5 is affordable and its K-mount lens support is a plus. Check the foam seals and mirror-damper foam, confirm the electronic shutter and meter both work with a good battery, and remember the body will not fire without power. Test film advance, rewind and any winder contacts, and inspect the screen; Chinon service support is now limited.
