Contax's legendary AF rangefinder — the G2 with titanium body and Carl Zeiss lenses.
The Contax G2 is a professional 35mm autofocus rangefinder camera released approximately 1996, improving on the original G1 with faster AF, higher maximum shutter speed (1/6000s), and better compatibility with wide-angle G lenses. Uses the proprietary Contax G bayonet mount. Contax G mount.
35mm film rangefinder. Contax G-mount interchangeable lens system. Titanium-coated shutter to 1/6000s. Motorised autofocus rangefinder. Aperture-priority and manual exposure. At approximately 520g body only. Contax G mount.
The G2's improved AF addresses the G1's known difficulty with the Biogon 21mm and 28mm G lenses. The Zeiss T*-coated G-mount lens lineup (Biogon 21mm, Biogon 28mm, Planar 35mm, Planar 45mm, Sonnar 90mm, and 35-70mm zoom) provides exceptional optical quality in a compact rangefinder package. G-mount lenses are popular for adapted mirrorless use.
On the used market the Contax G2 is a premium autofocus rangefinder. Condition checks: AF motor operation (test with all owned G lenses), titanium shutter to 1/6000s, rangefinder and viewfinder condition, metering accuracy. Contax G mount — proprietary; G lenses are prized for adapted Sony FE and mirrorless use.
