DJI's professional cinema drone platform with interchangeable camera system.
The DJI Inspire 2 was released in November 2016 as DJI's professional cinema drone platform, designed for dual-operator professional production where a pilot controls flight and a dedicated operator controls the Zenmuse camera payload independently. The Inspire 2 is a platform drone — the aircraft body carries no integrated camera; all imaging specifications depend on the attached Zenmuse camera payload. The primary cinema payloads are the Zenmuse X5S (21MP, up to 5.2K CinemaDNG RAW) and X7 (24MP Super 35, up to 6K CinemaDNG RAW).
The aircraft weight is approximately 3.3kg without camera payload. Maximum flight time is approximately 27 minutes with the Zenmuse X4S payload. Forward-facing obstacle avoidance is provided. The Inspire 2's raised landing gear design allows the camera to rotate a full 360° for unrestricted shot composition without the gear obstructing the lens. The aircraft supports two controllers — one for flight, one for camera — enabling independent control of flight path and camera direction.
The dual-operator capability is the Inspire 2's primary professional workflow feature: complex shots requiring independent flight and camera movement — orbiting a subject while adjusting the camera angle — can be executed by two operators simultaneously. The Zenmuse X7 Super 35 sensor provides sensor format and dynamic range comparable to dedicated cinema cameras, enabling the Inspire 2 to integrate into professional productions alongside Alexa and other Cinema EOS packages.
On the used market the Inspire 2 is available at professional cinema drone pricing, significantly reduced from its launch cost. Condition checks: aircraft landing gear and arm mechanism, both controller connectivity, and Zenmuse camera payload condition — the camera payload is a significant portion of the total system cost. Confirm which payload is included. The DJI Matrice series provides the successor professional platform. Camera payload determines all imaging specifications.
