DJI's Hasselblad-camera drone with a 1-inch sensor, the first truly prosumer aerial platform.
The DJI Mavic 2 Pro was released in August 2018 as the first DJI drone to feature a Hasselblad camera — specifically the Hasselblad L1D-20c with a 1-inch CMOS sensor and adjustable aperture from f/2.8 to f/11. The Hasselblad Natural Colour Solution (HNCS) colour science was co-developed for the camera system. The adjustable aperture was a first for consumer drones at launch, enabling creative exposure control without relying solely on ND filters or ISO adjustments for correct exposure in bright conditions.
The Hasselblad L1D-20c camera uses a 1-inch CMOS sensor capturing 20MP stills. 4K video records at up to 30fps; there is no 4K/60fps option. A 3-axis gimbal provides mechanical stabilisation for smooth video footage. The adjustable aperture ranges from f/2.8 to f/11. Battery flight time is rated at approximately 31 minutes. At 907g the drone is substantially heavier than sub-250g mini drones — registration is required in most jurisdictions. Body weight approximately 907g with battery.
The 1-inch sensor's practical advantage over standard consumer drone sensors is most apparent in dynamic range and low-light performance: landscape, golden hour, and dawn/dusk photography benefit substantially from the larger sensor's dynamic range compared to 1/2.3-inch alternatives. The adjustable aperture provides creative depth-of-field control and exposure management without the neutral density filtration required by fixed-aperture drones in bright light. For professional aerial photography, the Hasselblad colour science and HDR capability are the primary production arguments.
On the used market the Mavic 2 Pro is widely available, with the Mavic 3 series and Air 3 representing current alternatives at higher prices. Condition checks: all batteries charge to full capacity, gimbal movement and camera stabilisation in recorded footage, adjustable aperture operates across the full f/2.8-f/11 range, and body for any impact damage. The DJI Mavic 2 Zoom is the companion drone with a 24-48mm zoom but smaller sensor. Sub-1kg weight requires registration in most markets. Compatible with DJI RC-1 controller and DJI Fly app.
