DJI's popular sub-250g drone with 4K video, a significant upgrade over the original Mavic Mini.
The DJI Mini 2 was released in November 2020 as the second-generation Mini, upgrading the original DJI Mini's 2.7K maximum video to 4K/30fps and replacing OcuSync with OcuSync 2.0 for substantially extended transmission range and reliability. At 249g it remains sub-250g, maintaining registration exemptions in most jurisdictions. DNG RAW still capture was added over the original Mini's JPEG-only output. The upgrades established the Mini 2 as a capable creative tool rather than an entry-level only option.
The 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor captures 12MP stills in DNG RAW or JPEG and 4K video at up to 30fps; 1080p records at up to 60fps. The 3-axis mechanical gimbal provides stable handheld-equivalent video footage. Battery flight time is rated at approximately 31 minutes. OcuSync 2.0 transmission provides a range of up to 10km in open conditions. At 249g the Mini 2 is sub-250g — below registration thresholds in most jurisdictions including the UK and EU. Sub-249g body weight with propellers installed and battery.
The Mini 2's practical advances over the original Mini are 4K video output, OcuSync 2.0, and DNG RAW still capture. 4K at 30fps is the current delivery standard for social content and stock — the original Mini's 2.7K limit restricted downstream framing flexibility. OcuSync 2.0 extends reliable range substantially beyond the original and reduces transmission dropouts in congested areas. RAW still capture provides post-processing flexibility for colour and dynamic range that JPEG-only output cannot offer. Sub-250g status provides the same registration exemptions as the original Mini.
On the used market the DJI Mini 2 is widely available at accessible prices, reflecting the Mini 3 and Mini 4 Pro's current-generation position. Condition checks: all batteries charge to full capacity, propellers for nicks or cracks, gimbal stabilisation in recorded footage, and OcuSync 2.0 connection reliability. The DJI Mini 3 provides a 1/1.3-inch sensor, vertical shooting mode, and longer battery life at higher prices. Sub-249g; no interchangeable mount. Compatible with DJI RC-N1 and RC-1 controllers and the DJI Fly app.
