DJI's original pocket gimbal camera with 4K video and 3-axis mechanical stabilisation.
The DJI Osmo Pocket launched in 2018 as the world's smallest 3-axis stabilised camera. By combining a miniature mechanical gimbal with a 1/2.3-inch sensor and 4K video, it created a new product category — the pocket gimbal camera. It targeted vloggers and travellers who wanted ultra-smooth handheld video.
Key features include the 3-axis mechanical gimbal, 4K 60fps video, 12MP photos, and a tiny 1-inch touchscreen for framing and playback. The form factor is remarkably small, fitting in a shirt pocket. Gimbal stabilisation provides buttery smooth footage impossible with electronic stabilisation alone.
The Osmo Pocket created a category that DJI has iterated with the Pocket 2 (wider lens, better audio) and Pocket 3 (1-inch sensor, rotatable screen). The original is now two generations old but the gimbal stabilisation principle remains unchanged.
Cheap used as it has been superseded twice. Check the gimbal motors for smooth operation in all three axes, the sensor for dust, and the tiny screen for dead pixels. The Pocket 2 and Pocket 3 are significantly better. The original remains a fascinating tool for its groundbreaking pocket gimbal concept.
