DJI's original pocket gimbal camera with 4K video and 3-axis mechanical stabilisation.
The DJI Osmo Pocket was released in 2018 as DJI's compact integrated gimbal camera, combining a 3-axis mechanical gimbal and a small 12MP camera module into a 116g pocket-sized device. The mechanical gimbal physically stabilises the camera unit on all three axes — tilt, roll, and pan — providing smooth video from walking, cycling, and handheld movement that electronic stabilisation alone cannot match. The 26mm equivalent f/2.0 fixed lens and 80° field of view suit vlogging, travel, and documentary capture.
The 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor captures 12MP stills and 4K video at up to 60fps; 1080p records at up to 120fps for slow-motion sequences. The 3-axis mechanical gimbal maintains camera level and smooth motion independently of body movement. The 26mm f/2.0 fixed lens provides a moderate wide-angle perspective with reasonable low-light capability for the small sensor. ISO range of 100-3200. No weather resistance. Body weight approximately 116g.
The Osmo Pocket's practical distinction from action cameras and smartphones is the mechanical gimbal: it produces motion-stabilised video that electronically stabilised cameras cannot replicate at the same quality level, because the physical gimbal compensates for angular movement that crops or distorts EIS output. For casual vlogging, tourist documentation, and social content the Osmo Pocket provides near-cinematographer stabilisation in a truly pocketable form. The 26mm perspective is natural for walking and talking commentary.
On the used market the original Osmo Pocket is affordable, with Osmo Pocket 2 (2020, improved sensor) and Osmo Pocket 3 (2023, 1-inch sensor) as later versions. Condition checks: gimbal motor freedom (the 3 gimbal axes should move freely and return to centre), lens element for scratches, and charging port for any damage. No interchangeable lens; no weather resistance. Compatible with DJI Osmo Pocket accessories from the 2018 generation.
