Fujifilm's EBC Fujinon 16mm f/2.8 — a scarce, well-coated Japanese M42 full-frame fisheye.
The EBC Fujinon 16mm f/2.8 is a Japanese full-frame fisheye prime made in M42 mount by Fuji Photo Film. Carrying Fuji's respected EBC Electron Beam Coating, it was the fisheye of the Fujinon screw-mount range, giving a strong curved wide field of view.
This is a manual-focus M42 screw-mount lens with a 16mm focal length and a maximum aperture of f/2.8, designed as a full-frame diagonal fisheye and carrying Fuji's EBC coating. Focus and aperture are set by hand, and fisheyes of this type incorporate built-in filters. Detailed element figures are not asserted here beyond the verified focal length and aperture.
As a diagonal fisheye the 16mm gives a wide, curved field that bends straight lines away from the centre, used creatively for landscapes, interiors and dramatic perspectives. The very deep depth of field makes focus largely uncritical, and the EBC coating aids contrast. It is a specialist optic chosen for its bold look.
Used copies are scarce and collectible owing to the specialist fisheye design and the prized EBC coating. Inspect the curved front element for scratches, haze and fungus, verify the aperture and any filter mechanism work, and check the mount and focus. Verify the M42 mount before purchase. An M42 adapter allows fisheye use on mirrorless.
