Fujifilm's 2006 big-screen compact — 6MP CCD, 5x f/2.8-4.7 zoom, 3-inch LCD, SD storage
The FinePix F650 (often listed as the F650 Zoom) was a mid-range Fujifilm compact announced in February 2006. It paired a long-for-its-class 5x zoom with a large 3-inch screen, and was unusual among Fujifilm compacts of the period in storing images on SD cards rather than the company's own xD-Picture Card format.
It uses a 6-megapixel 1/2.5-inch CCD delivering 2816x2112-pixel images, behind a 5x optical zoom with a maximum aperture of f/2.8-4.7. The 3-inch LCD dominates the back, sensitivity runs from ISO 64 to 400, there is no optical image stabilisation, storage is SD card, and power comes from Fujifilm's NP-40 lithium-ion battery. The body weighs about 200g at 105 x 61 x 31mm.
As a simple big-screen point-and-shoot it suits casual snapshooters, and SD storage makes it far easier to live with today than xD-only stablemates. The low ISO ceiling and lack of stabilisation mean the long end of the zoom needs good light or a steady hand, so it is best treated as a daylight camera.
Used buyers should confirm the NP-40 battery still holds charge and that a charger is included, since third-party replacements vary in quality. Check the large LCD for scratches and bright-pixel faults, verify the zoom travels its full range without grinding, and test flash charging; SD compatibility means memory cards at least are no obstacle.
