Fujifilm's 2008 wide-zoom compact — 10MP CCD, 5x 28-140mm lens, 2.7in LCD, SD/SDHC, li-ion battery
The FinePix J110w was announced in August 2008 in Fujifilm's J-series of slim, budget-friendly compacts. The 'w' marked it out from the standard J100 by its wide-angle lens, with the larger-screened J150w sitting above it in the same family.
It combined a 10-megapixel CCD with a Fujinon 5x zoom covering a 28-140mm equivalent range — unusually wide and long for a 2008 budget compact — plus a 2.7in LCD. Face detection with automatic red-eye removal, a picture stabilisation mode and scene programs handled exposure automatically. Images stored to SD/SDHC cards or internal memory, and power came from a proprietary rechargeable lithium-ion battery. It weighed about 141g.
The 28mm wide end suits landscapes, interiors and group shots, and the 140mm reach covers most casual needs, making it a well-rounded snapshot camera. There are no manual exposure modes, so it is best for point-and-shoot use or as an inexpensive CCD-colour compact.
The proprietary lithium-ion battery is the main risk: confirm it holds charge and that a charger or lead is included, as originals are ageing. SD/SDHC cards keep storage easy. Check the LCD for scratches, the lens for haze or a stuck cover, and that the flash recycles promptly.
