Fujifilm's 2011 ultra-compact JV-series camera — 16MP CCD, 3x zoom, 2.7in LCD, 720p video
The FinePix JV250 was an ultra-compact budget camera announced by Fujifilm in January 2011, part of the JV tier at the bottom of the J-series range. It offered 16 megapixels at a low price point, positioned for buyers stepping up from camera phones of the day.
It pairs a 16-megapixel 1/2.3-inch CCD with a 3x optical zoom (7.2x digital, 21.6x combined) and a 2.7-inch LCD, with no viewfinder. Sensitivity runs ISO 100-1600, autofocus is contrast-detect, and video records at 720p HD. Operation is fully automatic, with scene modes, easy shooting modes and in-camera editing.
It is a straightforward pocket snapshot camera: small, light and simple, with the punchy rendering of a CCD compact in good light but limited high-ISO ability and no optical stabilisation. Best suited to casual everyday photography rather than action or low light.
Check that the proprietary rechargeable battery holds charge and that a charger or USB lead is included, as spares are third-party only now. Inspect the telescoping lens for grit or hesitation, confirm the LCD is free of bleed, and test writing to a memory card before purchase.
