Fujifilm's 2012 SL-series 24x bridge — 14MP CCD, 24-576mm equivalent, hot-shoe, li-ion power
The FinePix SL240 was a mid-range superzoom bridge camera announced by Fujifilm in January 2012 alongside the longer-zoom SL300. The SL line sat above the AA-powered S4000-series bridges, distinguished by lithium-ion power, a higher-resolution screen and a flash hot-shoe.
It combines a 14-megapixel 1/2.3-inch CCD with a Fujinon 24x zoom covering 24-576mm equivalent at f/3.1-5.9, stabilised by sensor-shift. Framing uses an electronic viewfinder or the 3.0-inch 460k-dot LCD, ISO reaches 6400, video records at 720p 30fps with a mini-HDMI output, and the rechargeable lithium-ion battery is rated for roughly 300 frames per charge.
Against its AA-powered stablemates the SL240 feels a step more serious: the sharper screen, hot-shoe for external flashguns and li-ion battery suit users who shoot regularly rather than occasionally. The small CCD still sets the ceiling, so it remains a good-light generalist with long reach.
Check the NP-85-type lithium-ion battery holds charge and that a charger is included, since spares are third-party only. Run the 24x zoom through its range for smoothness, test the hot-shoe contacts if you plan to use flash, and inspect the 460k LCD and EVF for defects.
