Fujifilm's pocket zoom compact — the Tiara Zoom, 28-56mm, program AE autofocus.
The Fujifilm Tiara Zoom is a fixed-lens 35mm zoom compact, the zoom-equipped companion to the fixed-lens Tiara. It was sold under regional names as the Cardia Mini Tiara Zoom in Japan and the DL Super Mini Zoom in Europe. It brought a short zoom to the small Tiara body, aimed at users who wanted framing flexibility in a pocketable camera.
Made for 35mm film, the Tiara Zoom has a 28-56mm f/4.5-7.5 zoom Super EBC Fujinon aspheric lens of seven elements in six groups. It uses active infrared autofocus with a manual and zone override, offers programmed AE exposure, and has a built-in flash with several modes. It is powered by a single CR123A lithium cell.
The 28mm wide end and 2x zoom range make the Tiara Zoom suited to travel, street and general use where a wide-to-short-telephoto range helps, including casual portraits at the long end. The manual and zone override gives some focus control beyond full automation. It keeps a small body while adding the flexibility of a zoom.
On the used market, check that the zoom motor drives smoothly through its full range and that autofocus confirms, and inspect the zoom lens for haze, fungus and internal debris. Confirm the LCD is complete and bleed-free, test the flash modes and the manual and zone override, and listen for smooth film transport. Inspect the CR123A battery door and contacts for corrosion, and verify the film-door light seals are sound.
