Fujifilm's ultra-affordable APS-C mirrorless with 24.2MP Bayer sensor and retro compact styling.
The Fujifilm X-A5 was released in 2018 as the entry-level APS-C mirrorless in the X-A lineup, featuring a 24.2MP APS-C Bayer CMOS sensor — not the X-Trans sensor used in X-T, X-Pro, and X-E series bodies. 4K video is available at 15fps only (5-minute maximum clip), while 1080p supports up to 60fps. A 3-inch tilting touchscreen flips forward for selfie and vlog framing. No EVF. No IBIS. NP-W126S battery.
The 24.2MP APS-C Bayer CMOS sensor (not X-Trans). 4K at 15fps (5-minute clip limit) — not practical 4K production. 1080p at up to 60fps. No IBIS. No EVF. NP-W126S battery rated approximately 450 shots. Body weight approximately 450g with battery and card. 3-inch 1040k-dot tilting touchscreen with 180° forward flip for selfie framing.
The Bayer sensor is the key differentiation from other X-series bodies: the standard Bayer CMOS provides higher colour channel count per pixel for conventional demosaicing but lacks the X-Trans pattern's inherent moiré reduction properties. The 4K/15fps is effectively unusable for video production — the practical video mode is 1080/60fps. The 180° forward-flipping LCD enables front-facing selfie and vlog framing without an external monitor.
On the used market the Fujifilm X-A5 is very affordable as an entry-level Fujifilm X APS-C mirrorless. Condition checks: NP-W126S battery health (shared with X-T2/T3/T4 and X-Pro2/3), tilting LCD hinge, and single SD slot. No IBIS, no EVF, no practical 4K. Compatible with all Fujifilm X-mount lenses.
