Fujifilm's updated ultra-wide zoom for X-mount — 15-36mm equivalent at f/4 with weather resistance and OIS.
The Fujifilm XF 10-24mm f/4 R OIS WR was released in November 2020 as the weather-resistant update to the original XF 10-24mm f/4 R OIS (2013), retaining the same 14-element optical formula while adding WR sealing and improved OIS (3.5 stops versus the original's 2.5 stops). At 385g and 72mm filter thread it is moderate for an ultra-wide APS-C zoom. 15-24mm full-frame equivalent range. Seven rounded aperture blades. Manual aperture ring.
The optical design uses 14 elements in 10 groups including 4 aspherical and 4 ED elements (identical to the 2013 original). Seven rounded aperture blades. The 72mm filter thread. At 385g the lens is moderate. Minimum focus distance of 0.24m. OIS provides approximately 3.5 stops of compensation (improved over the 2.5 stops of the original non-WR version). WR sealing. Constant f/4 aperture. 15-24mm full-frame equivalent range.
The WR version's improvements over the 2013 original are two: weather sealing enabling use in light rain with WR-compatible Fujifilm X bodies, and 1 additional stop of OIS compensation. The optical formula is unchanged. For Fujifilm X landscape and architectural photographers working outdoors in variable conditions, the WR sealing is the primary upgrade motivation over buying the original non-WR at a lower price.
On the used market the XF 10-24mm f/4 R OIS WR is available at mid-range Fujifilm X ultra-wide zoom pricing. Condition checks: OIS engagement, WR sealing at barrel seams, 72mm front element for marks, and aperture ring click-stop function. Compatible with all Fujifilm X-mount APS-C bodies.
