Fujifilm's ultra-wide prime for X-mount, providing a dramatic 21mm equivalent perspective.
The Fujifilm XF 14mm f/2.8 R was one of the earliest XF prime lenses, launched in 2012. Providing a dramatic 21mm equivalent ultra-wide perspective, it is the widest rectilinear prime in the XF lineup. It serves landscape photographers, architectural shooters, and astrophotographers who need a compact fast wide-angle.
Optical quality is very good with sharp centre performance from f/4 and good corners by f/5.6. ED glass elements control chromatic aberration effectively. Wide open at f/2.8 the centre is sharp but corners soften. Distortion is well-controlled but benefits from in-camera correction. Build is metal with an aperture ring.
Fujifilm X mount only, 58mm filter thread. The XF 10-24mm f/4 R OIS zoom covers a wider range with stabilisation. The Samyang 12mm f/2 offers a wider and faster alternative for astrophotography. The 14mm f/2.8 remains the widest Fujifilm prime.
Moderate value used. Check the AF motor and aperture ring. The lens is well-built but the older AF motor is noticeably slower than modern XF lenses. For astrophotography the f/2.8 aperture works well with the Fujifilm X-Trans sensor's noise characteristics.
