Fujifilm's original fast 35mm-equivalent prime for X-mount — f/1.4 with classic rendering and tactile controls.
The Fujifilm XF 23mm f/1.4 R launched in 2013 as one of the first premium primes for the X-mount system. Providing a 35mm equivalent perspective at f/1.4, it became the go-to street and reportage lens for X-series shooters valuing fast aperture and classic rendering.
Optically very good — sharp from f/2 with characterful wide-open rendering. Bokeh is smooth and pleasing. The internal DC motor AF is reasonably fast but not as quick as the newer Mark II version with linear motors. Aperture ring with 1/3-stop clicks provides tactile control.
Fujifilm X mount with 62mm filter thread. Weighs 300g. No weather sealing on this original version — the WR Mark II added that. Minimum focus distance 28cm. Metal construction. 7 rounded aperture blades. Focus ring is mechanical with a clutch for MF/AF switching.
Common used and good value. The XF 23mm f/1.4 R WR Mark II improved AF speed, added weather sealing, and is optically similar. The original remains excellent for shooters who want Fuji's classic 35mm prime at a lower price. Check for smooth aperture ring action.
