Fujifilm's compact weather-resistant 35mm equiv prime — f/2 with fast AF in a tiny WR package.
The Fujifilm XF 23mm f/2 R WR launched in 2016 as a compact, weather-resistant alternative to the larger XF 23mm f/1.4. Providing 35mm equivalent at f/2 in a much smaller and lighter package, it targets street and travel photographers who prioritise portability.
Optically very good — sharp from f/2.8 with good performance at f/2. Not quite as sharp as the f/1.4 version but the compact size compensates. Fast stepping motor AF — quicker than the f/1.4's DC motor. Minimal focus breathing for video. Weather-resistant construction.
Fujifilm X mount with 43mm filter thread. Weighs just 180g — half the weight of the XF 23mm f/1.4. Weather-resistant and freeze-proof. Minimum focus distance 22cm. Aperture ring with 1/3-stop clicks. Metal construction despite compact size.
Common used and good value. The choice between this and the 23mm f/1.4 defines many X-mount users' preferences — compact WR vs fast aperture. The 43mm filter thread is unusual. Outstanding paired with the X-E3 or X-E4 for a pocketable street setup.
