The Fujifilm XF 50mm f/2 R WR was released in 2016 as a compact weather-resistant portrait prime for the X-mount APS-C system, providing a 76mm full-frame equivalent field of view — a short telephoto portrait perspective providing slight facial compression and background separation at wide apertures. The WR designation indicates weather resistance, requiring a weather-sealed X-series body for full system protection. At 200g it is light for a prime with this focal length and weather sealing.

The optical design uses 9 elements in 7 groups. Nine rounded aperture blades produce smooth circular bokeh — the primary characteristic for a portrait prime.
