5MP sensor. 1080p/30fps; 720p/60fps; WVGA/120fps. Integral housing waterproof to 40m (no separate case needed). 111g with housing. Fixed wide-angle lens. No touchscreen, no WiFi on base Hero (Hero+ had WiFi). GoPro proprietary battery.
The 2014 Hero was GoPro's entry point: a permanently-housed waterproof action camera at the lowest price point in the lineup. The integral housing (not removable) limits audio quality compared to the Hero 3/4 housings, but simplifies field use — there is no separate case to lose or incorrectly close. The 40m waterproof rating enables diving and snorkelling without additional hardware.
On the used market the GoPro Hero (2014) is very affordable as a vintage entry-level action camera. Condition checks: lens element for scratches, battery health (GoPro proprietary cell), button function. Fixed wide lens with integral housing; no interchangeable mount.
