Hasselblad's metered 200-series 6x6 SLR — TTL aperture-priority, focal-plane shutter, 1994.
The Hasselblad 203FE is a metered medium-format SLR from the 200-series of the V-system, launched in the mid-1990s. It combines a focal-plane body shutter with built-in through-the-lens metering, designed to work with the fast FE electronic lenses while remaining compatible with the wider V lens range.
It is a medium-format (6x6) SLR shooting a 56x56mm square frame on 120 or 220 film through interchangeable backs. It uses an electronically controlled focal-plane shutter and offers TTL metering with aperture-priority automatic exposure alongside manual control. It is optimised for focal-plane F and FE lenses, while leaf-shutter C lenses can be used with their own shutter. The body takes interchangeable finders and screens and mounts Hasselblad V lenses.
The built-in meter and aperture-priority mode made the 203FE quicker to use for portrait and location work than the unmetered V bodies, while the fast FE lenses allow shallow-depth shooting in low light. It keeps the square frame and modular design, so studio use remains natural.
Confirm the meter reads correctly and the electronic shutter fires on a fresh battery, since the body is battery-dependent. Check the focal-plane curtain, film-back seals and dark slide, mirror and screen, and any leaf-shutter lens speeds. Confirm the finder mirror is clean, and match body, back, and lens serial eras for full electronic-lens function.
