Hasselblad's spot-metering 200-series 6x6 SLR — zone system, focal-plane shutter, 1991.
The Hasselblad 205FCC is a top-tier metered medium-format SLR from the 200-series of the V-system, introduced in the early 1990s. It was aimed at photographers who wanted precise exposure control, offering a spot meter and a zone-based metering system built into the body alongside its focal-plane shutter.
It is a medium-format (6x6) SLR producing a 56x56mm square frame on 120 or 220 film through interchangeable backs. It uses an electronically controlled focal-plane shutter and provides built-in TTL metering including a spot mode with a zone/differential system for precise placement of tones, plus aperture-priority automatic and manual exposure. It is designed for focal-plane F and FE lenses, accepts leaf-shutter C lenses, and takes interchangeable finders, screens, and Hasselblad V lenses.
The spot and zone metering made the 205FCC a tool for careful tonal control, suiting landscape and studio photographers who work by measured placement of highlights and shadows. The square frame and modular finders keep it flexible, though the sophistication and cost placed it at the top of the film V-system.
Verify the electronic shutter and the metering system, including the spot mode, on a fresh battery, as the body will not fire without power. Check the focal-plane curtain, film-back seals and dark slide, mirror and screen, and leaf-shutter lens speeds where relevant. Confirm the finder mirror is clean, and match body, back, and lens serial eras for full metering and lens function.
